Palletshipping episodes list
This page was one of the sidepages in my old Palletshipping website. This is the list (with very short summaries) of episodes with Gary Oak (Shigeru) and so with both Ash and Gary in the same episode.
001. I chose you!
002. Emergency
Gary and the professor makes bet about Ash's successes.
006. Clefairy and the moon stone
"Gary was here, Ash is a loser." That's what Gary writes on a sign and Ash decides to follow him.
018. Beauty and the Beach
Misty partecipates to a beauty contest on the beach and Gary is there too! On the stage Gary talks only to Ash also if he has a whole public in front of him. And he looks for him among the public.
Ash is so angry that he stands up and lets his beloved Pikachu falling on the ground before leaving to go to Gary.
Ash finds Gary and Gary blinks at him! Brock has to stop Ash before his friend decides to jump on Gary.

Ash finds Gary and Gary blinks at him! Brock has to stop Ash before his friend decides to jump on Gary.
031. Dig those Diglett!
Ash and Gary finds each other again and Gary can't resist making fun of Ash. Brock is all about the girls. Ash is all about Gary.
When Gary asks Ash (obviosuly to degrade him) if he has catched new pokemon Ash is happy and asks him if he wants to see them. Misty, Pikachu and Brock are clearly surprised by the happy reaction to Gary's bitter words (and so is gARY). When Gary and his fangirls leave Brock is heartbroken and has the same look Ash has because of Gary's leaving. |
046. Attack of the preistoric pokemon
Gary looking for fossils!
058. Riddle me this
Gary and his cheerleaders at a touristic resort.
063: The battle of the badge
Ash finds Gary at Viridian City and Gary wants to battles against the Gym Leader. Ash is so taken by his successes and words that wants to follow him into the Gym (but he can't).
He then manages to enter into the Gym and finds Gary unconscious on the ground with his fangirls. Brock goes immediately to the fangirls and Ash reaches for Gary and embraces him in his own arms.
In his arms, Gary wakes up and talks about a misterious pokemon (Mewtwo) who defeated him.
After that, Ash wins against the Team Rocket and wins the Badge of the Gym. Gary watches him admiring his abilities and smiling.

067. Showdown at the Poke-Corral
Ash goes to the professor to asks him where is the Indigo League but there he finds Gary who greets him with his usuals jokes. Ash is so taken by Gary that he starts leaving again to win the League and so win against Gary but Gary stops him with a "Ohh, Aaash!" . Gary knows Ash so well that is aware that the other boy doesn't know where the Indigo League is and that he is so fired up that he forgot about asking the information. When Gary says that he knows perfectly where the League is Ash goes to him and nearly embraces him (they are very very close). Gary seems really shy/embarassed and is frozen (he can't add anything!) so it's the professor that explains to Ash where to find the League.
In this episode the professor talks a lot about the differences and the similiraties of Ash and Gary and all the things they can learn from each other.
After that the professor takes them on a tour of his house and the pokemon but the only pokemon Ash shows some real interest into is Gary's Doduo.
At the end of the episode they stare at each other and they'd love to battle but the Team Rocket interrupts them and they have to fight them (Ash is very sad about the not-fighting-against-Gary).

074. All fired up
075. Round one begin
Ash gest the water field in the first battle and Gary knows about him just some minutes after Ash himself discovered it. Gary using "Ashy-boy" and being all obsessed about the idea of fighting with Ash. After Ash's first battle and Gary's first battle too, Gary is intervisted on tv and talks about the 'losers' obviosly referring to Ash. (Isn't he a tracking mind?)
|
077. The fourth round rumble
Gary loses his match and has to leave the League. Ash is very sad to see Gary losing and leaving and goes to him outside the stadium. Ash doesn't know what to say but clearly Gary is happy to see him and doesn't want Ash to sees him sad so he finds his old attitude. But there is a new gentleness in their meeting.
115. A tent situation
Ash, Misty and Tracey are again in Pallet Town and they find Brock. Brock has a typical broken-heart expression when they mention the lovely woman he was in love with. Misty suddenly mentions Gary and Ash has the same expression Brock's had.
After that the guys go to the professor Oak but they are attacked by the Team Rocket. Fortunately Gary saves the situation. Gary is clearly less arrogante and alone (without his fangirls), he is also humbler and seems to love his pokemon more. After that, Gary and Ash just stares in each other eyes.

116. The rivalry revival
Ash and Gary fight with Pikachu and Eevee and Eevee wins. Gary compliments Ash for his improvements.
After the match Ash is all along watching the sky and thinking about Gary. Is he thinkng about him with an intense that even Misty can feel him and asks Ash if he wants to know where Gary is. Ash says that he doesn't care but he obviously do because when Misty says that Gary left for his new journey, Ash runs to the professor to ask 'where?'. The professor explaines that Gary left for Johto and Ash decides to leave for Johto too!

121. Illusion confusion
Our heroes are lost in a forest full of strange illusions. Gary saves them with his pokemon HootHoot and explaines that to get out the forest they will need a HootHoot. Ash doesn't complain and when Gary leaves Ash decides that he need a HootHoot.
171. Power play
"It's Gary."
When Ash and his friends hear the noise of a battle between pokemon they go to watch it and one of the two trainers is Gary with a strange pokemon: Umbreon. Gary wins and Ash trows himself (really!) off the mountain (nearly killing himself) to reach him. He wants to battle with him but Gary refuses because he already knows Pikachu's attacks. Ash shows Gary his other pokemon but Gary ignores him and leave.
Ash shows off his pokemon- usually men and boys show off their abilities and mostly their streinght to the women, because they etologically need to impress and conquer them. Ash is doing the same thing with Gary, explaining him and showing him and he is strong enough for him.
After that Ash can't stop talking about Gary in the afternoon, at dinner and in the evening. And then there's a black out. Ash and his friends leave to solve the situation and Gary sees the, Gary is clearly worried about Gary because he follows him. They fight against the Team Rocket but to make the lights go on again they have to open the water flow. Ash tries to follow and help Gary to do it but he is stopped again by the Team Rocket.
After defeating the Rockets, Ash, Misty and Brock go to Gary. And everything ends fine.
The separation between Gary and Ash is hesitant, almost shy and they exchange shy compliments and smiles.

228. Extreme Pokemon
Ash, Misty and Brock arrives in a new place and they find... Gary on a skateboard with his Arcanine! The first thing Ash does is to says what a wonderful skateboard Gary has. They smile at each other and Gary explaines what he is doing: training to a match of extreme pokemon, on skateboard.
Of course, Ash wants to do what Gary does and decides to partecipate with his Bayleaf. Ash is training with the skateboard when he falls and nearly hurts himself but fortunately Gary is there to save hime.
When Gary discovers that Ash wants to partecipate too he says something like: "You can't stay away from a competion, can you?" (or is he maybe saying "You can't stay away from me, can you?" ?).
The day of the competition, Gary and Ash relaly compete only with each other and they jokes with each other in a really friendly way.
When the Team Rocket kidnaps Arcanine, Ash leaves the competition to go after Arcanine promising Gary that they will take him back. At the end Ash manages to defeat the Rockets at saves Arcanine and Gary thanks him.
They start running in the match again and they are nearly at the end. Ash wins the competition and Gary smiles at him and seems really glad for him.
When Ash and Gary have to leave again, Gary compliments Ash about how Ash is training his pokemon.

266. A claim to flame
This is one of my favourite episode. Ash is at the Silver Conference in Johto and Gary is there too. Gary calls him 'Ashy-boy' and is more friendly than usual. At night Ash can't sleep and gets up to go for a walk near the lake. There he finds Gary who seems glad to see him.
I remember the conversation quite well but this will not be a precise transcription because I watched it in Italian.
However, Gary asks: "You can't sleep?"
I remember the conversation quite well but this will not be a precise transcription because I watched it in Italian.
However, Gary asks: "You can't sleep?"
Ash replies nearly embarassed that he and Pikachu wanted some fresh air. Is he nervous because he is alone with Gary at night in a very romantic place?
After that, Gary and Ash sits together watching the lake and the moon and suddenly Gary starts talking about the night he left to become a trainer and the fact that that is the same moon. He remembers when Ash had his Pikachu because he was late and how he and Pikachu become such good friends after a hard start.
And the... Gary starts with IF. "I wonder If you hadn't been late that day, or if that day I didn't get up to watch a moon as beautiful as this one... we might ended up in two different parts of the world tonight, doing different things, having completely different dreams and who knows what dreams. And there are so many dreams we haven't even thought of. "
What is he really saying? And Ash is confused too because he asks: "Hey Gary... you okay? I mean, why are you thinking about this?"
Gary answers: "For no reason. I was thinking that there are all kinds of possibilities for the two of use in the future."
What kind of possibilities? Why is he talking about WE? I like to think he is actually talking about him and Ash but of course Ash doesn't understand and seems to talk only when Gary returns discussing about their future pokemon matches.
The day after that, Gary is entering the stadium and has a serious and sad look. When he sees Ash he smiles. But to see him he has to watches the end of the queue and turns... was he looking for him? Or did he see him in the moment he arrived only by chance?
After that, the Team Rocket kidnaps Pikachu and traps Ash. Gary noticed that something was wrong and saves Ash.

269. The ties that bind
Ash and Gary really grew up together! In this episode Ash finds out he has to fights against Gary in the next match. Gary is a bit arrogant and Ash is all fired up but he calms when Gary shows him the half of a little pokeball. Ash explaines that he and Gary, while they were trying to capture some water pokemon, they found a pokeball and one of them had to take the half of the ball and the other one the other half because neither of them didn't manage to win.
Gary has the pokeball because he considers it a defeat and wants to win against Ash, now. For Ash, instead, the pokeball is a little token of luck (isn't it romantic?).
The next day is a day off and Ash is up all night studying Gary's website. When he meets Gary again they stares at each other in silence till the professor's arrival (and then they seem embarassed).

270. Can't beat the heat
Ahs and Gary fights in the stadium. It's a hard match but in the end Ash is the winner. He is actually very surprised and Gary seems satisfied/at peace and smiles.
That night Gary asks Ash to go and meet him at the lake and he gives to Ash his half pokeball, because now Ash is the winner. Ash doesn't seem really happy to receive it...
At the end Gary compliments Ash for the match and gives him a good luck speech.

272. Johto photo finish
Ash loses the match in the stadium and i now out the Silver Conference. That night Ash, Misty and Brock discovers some nervous Misdreavus. And Gary arrives too because he heard the commotion. Gary explaines that the pokemon are looking for something... and they soon find out that they were looking for a lost friend: a Misdreavus trapped under a tree.
The guys free the pokemon and Gary explaines them what happened showing his skills as a an experto of pokemon. Ash compliments him and finally Gary decides what he wants to do in the future: become a scientist and pokemon researcher.
It's a very important decision and everyone is happy for him but Ash seems just too schocked. The next day, Ash and Gary meet again before leaving.
They finally can be the best without always competing to each other.

273. Gotta catch you later
This is the famouse episode when Misty leaves. Brock leaves too and Ash returns alone to Pallet Town. But he doesn't stay a lot at home because he has to go to find Gary at the professor's. The professor Oak and Tracey say that Gary already left.
Ash is really depressed about it but he starts running after him and manages to reach him just outside Pallet.
"Are you here to say goodbye?" asks Gary. Well, yes he is.
Gary explaines that that is his new start, a new life and new experiences and if Ash isn't sure about what he wants to do he had to stay a little but at Pallet and think about it.
When Gary turns to leave again, Ash calls him. And gives him the half of their old pokeball. This is very importante for Ash because that pokeball is a lucky charm for Ash and something that is only about Gary and Ash. Gary accepts the gift.
After Gary left, Ash remains alone thinking (about him?) before decideding to... do what Gary did! To star again and travel!

Advance Generation 086: Lights, camera up, action!
Ash has a flashback about a movie he watched at cinema with Gary. Cute baby Ash with cute baby Gary on a date!
SPECIAL: Putting the air back in the Aerodactyl
Gary has some problem with an Aerodactyl. Gary is a bit insecure and depressed and Tracey helps him (yeah, the reason why I'm also a Backdoorshipper) and says that they both know a person who never gives up. Gary says "Ash!" and suddenly he smiles and he seems better asking to Tracey some questions about where is Ash, how is Ash and what he is doing.
Advance Generation 186: The unbeatable lightness of seeing
Ash is depressed because he lost but when he receives a letter from Gary and imagines himself talking with him Ash finds again his hope and his streinght
Advance Generation 192: Home is where the start is
May decides to return home and compete in pokemon contests. Brock returns home too and Ash goes to Pallet Town. During the journey he sees the Team Rocket trying to capture an Erekibu and tries to stop them. But he is not a wild Erekibu, he's Gary's Erekibu and Gary stops the Team Rocket. Ash, happy to see him, asks to him to fight but Gary wants to heal his pokemon first and they have a date: they will fight a the professor's.
Gary leaves and Ash returns home but his mother is nowhere to see so he goes to the professor Oak and there he finds everyone and a little surprise 'come back' party. Gary is with them to greet him.
Gary leaves and Ash returns home but his mother is nowhere to see so he goes to the professor Oak and there he finds everyone and a little surprise 'come back' party. Gary is with them to greet him.
This could have four different explanations:
A) Gary returned to Pallet at the same time Ash returned. After refusing to battle with him, Gary went to Pallet (very quickly) found out that the professor organized that little party and decided to partecipate;
B) Gary returned to Pallet at the same time Ash returned and after seeing him he run to Ash's house and the to the professor (before Ash managed to reach the town) to organize a little party;
C) Ash's mother and the professor knew about Ash's return and they decided to organize a little party. They called Gary and Gary returned to Pallet Town to meet Ash;
D) Ash's mother and the professor knew about Ash's return and they decided to organize a little party. Gary was already in Pallet Town and decided to go outside the city because he was impatient to meet Ash.
I actually think the second one is the more improbable because at the party there's food and it seems organized with time.

About food... at the beginning of the episode Ash is very hungry but at the party he doesn't eat and only want to fight with Gary. They finally have a match and Gary wins, reminding Ash not to be too arrogant and self-assured (and Gary knows what he is talking about because he made the same mistake in the past).
After that Gary leaves for Shinou and, of course, Ash decides to go to Shinou too.

Diamon and Pearl 045: Ill-will hunting
Ash, Brock and Dawn saves a Shieldon from some Hunters... and they find out that the Shieldon is Gary's friend. Gary is studying Shieldons but the Hunters want them and now Gary has to take the Shieldons in a safe place. He is in a hurry but Ash follows him and decides to help him.
The Hunters find them and they have to fight (and Gary is all worried because they want Pikachu too and he says something like 'WE have to be careful' to keep Pikachu safe). They fight against the Hunter but when Ash is being too reckless Gary stops him.
After that Gary explains that Ash is being reckless and just putting them in danger because they need a plan. Their plan is quite difficult and the Shieldons get tired.
Unfortunately Hunter J, the lady boss, find them and Gary decides to fight her while the other ones escape with the pokemon. But Ash can't leave Gary and he returns to help him (Dawn tries to stop him because it's too risky but Brock stops her, he is an intuitive person).
Gary and Ash fight together but Hunter J manages to take a Shieldon because the little pokemon was too tired. When she leaves, Gary and Ash follows her hiding under her car and Ash needs Gary to know that he is sorry for being too reckless. But Gary says tha he is the one who was wrong because his plan put the Shieldon in danger tiring him.
When the car stops, Ash and Gary fight against the Hunters and win. The Hunters escape and Ash tries to follow them but Gary stops him with a hand on his chest.
At the end Gary says: "Best of friends till the end."

Diamond and Pearl 085: Fighting fear with fear
Ash's Ginglar, after a hard fight, is scared of fighting again also if he wants to improve. Ash tries to train him but Ginglar leaves and ends up with Gary. Gary is a bit arrogant and when he offers Ash his help the other one refues. However Ash is oblidged to accpet Gary's offer when Ginglar doesn't want to leave Gary.
Gary finds the problem and the solution and gives a RazorFang to Ash so Ginglar can evolve and be strong and confident again. After some Team Rocket-related problesm, Ginglar evolves and all ends well.
Ash thanks Gary but Gary says that it was all Ash's merit. Ash is so pleased that he seems to blush.

Diamond and Pearl 152: The battle finale of legend
The episode is quite complicated... the important things are that Ash and Gary fight (also if not together) againts the Team Galactic. At the end of the episode they find each other.
